The Office turns 100

It’s the fifth season finale of NBC’s The Office tonight — and the sitcom’s 100th episode. The folks at Dunder Mifflin have come a long way from their early days, when few thought it would last — including the show’s cast.

“I think at best, my guess would’ve been 48 (episodes) at most,” John Krasinski, who plays Jim on the series, tells Metro World News.

Krasinski has been very busy, fitting feature films into his Office schedule whenever possible. Next month he stars in Away We Go, directed by Sam Mendes — who, it turns out, originally tried to talk Krasinski out of taking his role on the Office.

“His whole thing was, ‘You don’t touch the untouchable. You don’t re-sing a Beatles song. You leave it.’ And he thought the English version was perfect,” Krasinski explains.

“The problem was I agreed with him.”

Luckily, they were both wrong. Krasinski says he’s thrilled with tonight’s finale.

“The finale’s always really fun for Jim and Pam, because they always write amazing stuff for us,” he says, though he won’t budge on any potential wedding plans between the two characters.

All Krasinski really wants now for the show is the chance to decide when it will end, much like ABC’s Lost was allowed to do.

“I hope we get the opportunity to call our last season, to pull a Babe Ruth and point to the outfield wall.” he says.
