Fans of past “T Plays” might recall memorable mini-sagas like the tale of two gay dolphins that go to the Aquarium.
“They are really unique,” said John O’Brien, artistic director for Mill 6, the company that puts on the popular plays, which will return this week.
To create “T Plays III,” seven writers put their names in a hat and were randomly assigned an MBTA train to ride for the day.
Based on their underground experience, they each concocted a 10-minute play, whether real or fake, and paired off with actors and directors they barely knew to bring their thoughts to the stage.
O’Brien said the popularity in the past prompted the gypsy company to revive the idea again this year.
Past performances have included plays about “death” riding the Silver Line and a tale about Charlie of the “CharlieCard.”
“The strangest tales so far have come from the Blue Line. It’s the combination of the Aquarium stop, the Airport stop and a stop called Wonderland — the writers go a little crazy,” he said.
This year, writer Dawn Simmons created a world of ghastly mystery with a comedic twist after spending a day riding the Silver Line to the Seaport District.
“On my trip there was nobody around, it was quiet and really eerie,” she said. “It inspired a ghost story. … I’m really proud of this piece.”
Simmons’ play and six others will hit the stage for five days, and audience members will vote for their favorite T-inspired creation, said O’Brien.
