You’ll have to play hooky for this one, but it’s worth it. Red-carpet hero Christian Siriano is coming to Queens, and you can not only meet him but the first 25 people in line also get one of his sketches, signed and free! An insane amount of musical talent will gather on one stage to raise funds for the nonprofit God’s Love We Deliver during the second annual Love Rocks NYC! This year’s lineup includes the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, Patty Smyth, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Cheap Trick, Marc Cohn and more, hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. The Orchid Show returned this month to the New York Botanical Gardens, and this weekend brings the first of several Orchid Evenings, when kids are tucked in for the night and grown-ups have the chance to stroll through the lush exhibit with a drink in hand. The Real 21st Bday of Nicky Siano
A New York City music scene mainstay from the 1970s through today, DJ Nicky Siano is an icon who’s living larger than ever as he comes upon his “Real 21st Bday.” In what’s being called a “Native New Yorker Event” at the Good Room, Siano celebrates his legacy: from being the last original resident DJ at Studio 54 to one of the city’s first disco owners at The Gallery. Since 1970, a unique artist enclave has thrived in the West Village at Westbeth, a building that houses nearly 400 apartments dedicated to providing affordable living spaces for the city’s creative community. This Sunday, you can tour the historic building and look inside the homes and studios of artists who have been working there for six decades as part of the citywide The 60’s: The Years that Changed America festival.
