This injury packs a pungent punch

Being injured stinks. Just ask Gerrad Grant.

“The cast stinks so bad,” joked the Halifax Mooseheads forward, who hasn’t played yet this season after having wrist surgery on July 17. “That’s actually the hardest part.”

Grant, who had 24 points in 64 games last season despite playing the final two months with a broken scaphoid bone, is getting closer to returning to the Mooseheads’ lineup.

The 19-year-old has been wearing a playing cast for the past two weeks and is participating in non-contact drills at practice. He is awaiting results from a CAT scan to determine his return date, which will probably be next weekend.

The Mooseheads hope he can produce offence, although he might need some time to work his way into form.

“I’ll be in top shape, but my shot won’t be there,” Grant said. “I’m hoping (to produce offence), that’s what I’m planning on doing, but it probably won’t happen right away.”
