It’s been a rough few days to be a Boston sports fan.
First, the Red Sox finished their epic wild-card collapse. Then three more shoes dropped. Here’s what made this — Patriots aside — one of the roughest weekends we can remember.
1. The end of an era — The Sox and manager Terry Francona parting ways was hardly unexpected — we called it in Friday’s edition, after all. But that didn’t make the non-firing any less jarring.
Tito helped rescue us from our post-Grady malaise and was a genuinely good guy in the most pressure-packed job in town.
You can’t blame the team for the move. But the Sox will have a hard time finding Francona’s equal.
2. Clipped wings
Next up:?Three straight road games, including two against ranked foes. Ouch.
3. Eliminated — The Sox definitely require changes. The Revolution might need some, too.
The Revs (5-14-12) were eliminated from playoff contention for the second straight year with a 2-1 loss to Seattle.
The days of dominating the East are over. Time for the Diego Fagundez era to truly kick off.
