Transit museum annex at Grand Central to host new exhibit on World’s fairs

A new exhibition at Grand Central Terminal celebrates the legacy of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs that were held in New York City.

Starting this Saturday, postcards, photos and souvenirs commemorating the 50th and 75th anniversaries of the two fairs will be on display at the New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex at Grand Central Terminal. The exhibition, titled Traveling in the World of Tomorrow: The Future of Transportation at New York’s World’s Fairs, shows transportation as people saw it back then, as a symbol of modernity and technological progress and an important factor in American life.

“The World’s fairs were full of these weird, quirky, fun things,” said Rob Del Bagno, curator of the exhibit. “From these two different visions of the future, you can see a progression of how transportation evolved. So we’re hiding a history lesson under a fun look at the fairs.”

The exhibition is free to the public and will run through November 2 from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 8 pm and Saturday to Sunday between 10 am and 6 pm.
