Trustees finally pay back $19K

Three Toronto Catholic trustees who owe the board $19,000 in unauthorized expenses are finally paying it back.

“The process is in place, it starts” in June, provincial supervisor Norbert Hartmann told the Toronto Star.

He was put in charge of the board a year ago amid a trustee spending scandal and after they failed to balance the budget.

“Basically, the amounts that are owed are pro-rated over their term.”

Eight months ago, Education Minister Kathleen Wynne directed trustees to repay the money, much of it for improperly receipted expenses that were approved by the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

Some $10,000 of the total $29,000 was voluntarily repaid after auditors did a thorough investigation of trustee expenses.
