Turnaround: BC nets title

Every member of the Boston College Eagles could take off their sweater for the final time Saturday night with an unparalleled sense of pride.

They went out as winners, claiming the national championship with an impressive 5-0 victory against favored Wisconsin at Ford Field in Detroit. It was BC’s second title in three years and the fourth in school history.

“I feel like I’m in a dream, honest to God, and I feel like 2008 happened yesterday,” said BC junior Joe Whitney, who had three assists against Wisconsin. “The guys worked so hard all year long.

We had so much fun the whole year. This is incredible.”

The Eagles rebounded from a lackluster 2008-09 season in which they failed to defend their national championship by missing the NCAA tournament. Their growth and triumph left many speechless.

“Cloud nine,” BC freshman Chris Kreider said. “I don’t know what to do with myself.”
