After he took the stand in his own defense yesterday, City Councilor Chuck Turner said federal officials destroyed his decades-long reputation as a civil servant.
“They have destroyed a reputation that took me 45 years to build,” Turner said yesterday. “It can never be repaired. How can people keep out this situation from their minds?”
Turner, who is facing federal charges of corruption and lying to FBI agents, said he did not remember meeting businessman Ron Wilburn. Wilburn was the man who worked with federal authorities and who allegedly gave Turner $1,000 for attempting to help him secure a liquor license for a Roxbury club.
