Twitter users expressed shock and awe at the discovery of fizzy, wine-tasting Chobani Greek yogurt, prompting the company to issue a voluntary recall after mold was discovered in some of its products.
Customers have been tweeting about “fizzy, bloated” Chobani yogurt for about a week. The dairy giant began recalling cups of yogurt several days ago, eventually pinpointing the affected cups to be from an Idaho facility.
Confused yogurt-eaters, desperate for information, took to Twitter about lids that popped and described getting sick after eating the yogurt. Chobani said the mold, which is common in dairy products, was in less than five percent of the yogurt the company produces.
“We won’t sugar coat it: This type of mold is not pleasant. While unlikely to have ill health effects upon consumption, nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our consumers, and we are taking all of the necessary steps to uphold our very rigid quality standards.
“If you’ve purchased these products with the code 16-012, expiration dates 9/11/2-13 – 10/7/2013, please discard and contact our Customer Loyalty Team: http://chobani.com/care,” Chobani said in a statement on its website.
