Two charged, third sought in Algonquin College robbery

Police have charged two Ottawa men and are seeking a third in relation to an extortion and forcible confinement incident at Algonquin College.

Police said Tuesday that just before 1 p.m. on March 11, a student was approached by a male known to him and asked to accompany him to meet two other males in a washroom.

Once in the washroom, the victim was grabbed, held down and searched. The suspects took personal items and demanded he accompany them to a bank machine in the 1900 block of Baseline Road, where an undisclosed amount of money was withdrawn.

The victim reported the robbery to Ottawa police, who arrested two males.

Hussein Ismail Abdi, 19, faces charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, extortion, forcible confinement and breach of recognizance, while Otoniel Velasquez, 20, faces charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Police are seeking a man of Middle Eastern descent, 18 to 25 years old, six feet tall with a thin build.
