Two-hour chase ends in arrest

It was a slow-speed car chase that began in Dartmouth, went to Fall River, back through Bedford to Tantallon, off towards Hubbards before winding back in Fall River.

The more than two-hour chase involved both Halifax Regional Police and Halifax RCMP and began around 3:40 a.m. Thursday when police observed a car leave an auto dealership on Portland Street and drive over an embankment.

RCMP drew their weapons when the car finally stopped at 5:50 a.m. after the driver lost control trying to swerve around a police vehicle in front of him.

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody.

Police say they backed off from the chase several times and tire spikes were used three times.

Charges

Greg Thomas Weeks, an 18-year-old from Dartmouth, faces charges of impaired driving, refusing a demand for a drug influence evaluation, dangerous driving, flight and breaching conditions.
