Two skiers die in avalanche

An avalanche at a resort in Golden killed two skiers after they ventured into a closed-off area prone to slides.

The deaths occurred just 13 days after a Quebec couple staying at the same resort went missing for nine days and had their SOS signs ignored.

In the latest deaths, the two men from Calgary, aged 41 and 40, set out in a group of four on Saturday and passed through roped-off areas and signs warning visitors of the avalanche risk.

“The people passed over 20 signs,” said Jordan Petrovics, manager of media events at the Kicking Horse Resort. “Twenty avalanche permanent closure signs. The message is there.”
