U of C staff pioneers diagnosis app for iPhone

Diagnosing a stroke is as easy as a tap on a touch screen now that it’s an application available on iPhones, courtesy of University of Calgary researchers.

Faculty of medicine Ross Mitchell and his Calgary Scientific firm developed the Resolution MD Mobile Software over six years and the medical tool is now Health Canada approved.

“This allows images to be brought up anywhere, where before it would be limited to expensive workstations,” Mitchell said.

Physicians can manipulate medical images in high-resolution, which allows for quick diagnosis for the treatment of stroke, cardiac arrest or other emergencies. “Doctors can do just as good of a job diagnosing on the application as they can on a workstation,” Mitchell said.
