Uncommon wealth for a home on Commonwealth Avenue

Though the property at 15 Commonwealth Ave. was most recently used as office space by the Boston Psychoanalytic Society, the new owners are planning to restore it to its original purpose — a decadent single-family home.

“The owners are from Boston and they wanted a unique piece of property. This is the most sought after block in Back Bay,” says Lili Banani, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, the broker who represented the buyer. “The details in the home date back to the late 1800s.”

Those details include intricate carved wood paneling and ornate marble fireplaces. The house boasts five floors, 13 parking spaces and 15,000 square feet of living space. The element that really sets it apart from surrounding homes on Commonwealth Avenue, according to Banani, is the size of the building. At 50 feet wide, it appears to be a double residence with two large bays and 14 windows facing the street.

The renovation project is expected to take three years, according to Banani.
