Underwater camera to be used in search

MAKKOVIK, N.L. – RCMP in Labrador say they will use an underwater camera today in the search for a missing 14-year-old boy.

Officials began searching for the boy after he was reported missing Sunday at 7:30 p.m., six hours after he left his parent’s home on a snowmobile in the remote community of Makkovik.

They say snowmobile tracks came to an end on the ice near open water near Makkovik.

Police say the boy left his parent’s house around 1:30 p.m. Sunday and made a short stop at his grandmother’s home before heading to an unknown destination.

A helicopter flew over the site Monday, while searchers continued to check the area of the tracks and a boat scoured the water for signs of debris.

The village borders the Labrador Sea, which is currently frozen from the shoreline to about 10 kilometres out into the ocean.
