VIDEO: Barney Frank compares honorary degree recipient’s robe to hoodie, Trayvon Martin

U.S. Rep. Barney Frank is not known to keep his mouth shut or hold back a comment.

So it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise that the retiring Congressman from Newton made another controversial comment.

Frank spoke during the commencement ceremony at UMass Dartmouth Sunday. The school gave awards to Frank and civic leader Hubert Jones.

Jones, who is black, was the subject of Frank’s comment, which was reported by Real Clear Politics and The Blaze.

“And Hubie, I think you now have a hoodie you can wear and no one will shoot at you. So I think you’ll feel i hope pretty protected by that,” Frank said. He also called Jones a great leader that he’s worked with over the years.

The comment made reference to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen who was wearing a hoodie when he was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch member.
