It was just a few weeks ago that sports fans were complaining about how boring the month of February is. Well, the opposite can be said of the month of March as college basketball takes center stage, the half-year-long baseball season gets set for take-off, NFL free agency has football fans not being able to sleep and NHL teams start jockeying for playoff positions.

It’s been so busy this month that we have to combine a couple of YouTube videos in this Playing the Field post. Our first video comes from Sunday night’s NCAA tournament Selection Sunday show on ESPN as 74-year-old Dick Vitale began rambling about a stripper he once knew that went by the name of “Toni Bennett.” It’s certainly amusing – though it’s as if Vitale was told to drop the story on air in some sort of bet:

Watch yourself, Dick. We just saw last week that ESPN has no trouble eventually letting go of commentators that were born in the 1930s after they make “creepy old man remarks” about women (see Musburger, Brent). In Vitale’s defense, he is a Tampa resident and that’s possibly the one place in the continental U.S. where strip clubs outnumber both Dunkin’ Donuts’ and Bank of America ATMs. It’s just a different way of life down there.

While Florida’s Gulf Coast owns the stereotype of a pole dancing mecca, Los Angeles remains the U.S. city most likely to fall into an ocean. LA was hit with a 4.4 magnitude earthquake Monday morning and NFL Network analyst and former Broncos running back Terrell Davis was caught on tape reacting to the rumble. Gotta say, Davis handled himself very well. No sign of liquid on either the front or back of those Haggars:
