Video shows shootout between two vehicles in latest B.C. gunplay

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A shooting in Metro Vancouver early Wednesday was caught on video surveillance tape that shows people in two vehicles roaring around a parking lot exchanging gunfire.

The shootout happened at a mini-mall in suburban Langley at about 4 a.m. and involved a dark pickup truck and a light-coloured vehicle. A clerk at a gas station said the station’s security video shows the vehicles speeding around the lot while the occupants fired at each other.

The lighter-coloured vehicle left the scene, but the bullet-riddled pickup was left behind, said Const. Holly Marks of the RCMP’s Langley detachment.

“It would appear as though one of the bullets actually immobilized the engine of the vehicle,” Marks said.

She said police are canvassing local hospitals and attempting to locate the registered owner of the pickup to determine who had it or if it was stolen.

Police are also in the process of seizing surveillance footage as they attempt to talk to witnesses and find the people involved in the gun battle.

“We haven’t been able to locate any of the involved parties at this point,” Marks said, adding it’s too early in the investigation to determine if the incident is linked to any gang activity.

The scene isn’t far from another mall where a man was shot dead last Friday, one of six shootings in six days in Metro Vancouver, four of them fatal.
