Week 2: Top Pickups

Usually, I recommend holding off on using waiver positions and auction dollars on free agents. That’s because most of them are short-term fixes or guys that just aren’t that good. This week is different.

Thanks to a perfect storm of injuries and talent, there are major LONG-TERM options on the wires. Like Fred Davis last week, we can attack the wideout pool this week. Here are my top adds:

1. Denarius Moore, WR, Raiders: We talked about this guy a bunch in the preseason as he dropped jaws at Raiders camp. He got his regular season chance against the Bills last week and did not disappoint, going off for 146 yards with a touchdown. It’s not a fluke. He’s the real deal and will “Pipp” Darrius Heyward-Bey out of a starting job. Add Moore in all formats.

2. Eric Decker, WR, Broncos: Speaking of really talented, physical dudes, Eric Decker fits the bill. Eddie Royal is going to be out a month due to a groin pull and Decker will make sure Royal loses his starting job during that time. He’s a beast after the catch and has excellent hands.

3. David Nelson, WR, Bills: The slot receiver in a Chan Gailey offense is going to get a ton of looks and Nelson can play. He’s a mismatch in terms of size for most corners and now Stevie Johnson (groin) is hobbled.

4. Fred Davis, TE, Redskins: He was on this list last week but for some reason people still don’t believe. Chris Cooley is getting phased out and Davis just keeps making plays. He’s the first read on almost all third down passes.

5. Dexter McCluster, RB/WR, Chiefs: With Jamaal Charles down, McCluster is a good bet for 10-12 total touches per game. He was WR eligibility, making him worth a look in PPR formats.

6. Kevin Ogletree, WR, Cowboys: Miles Austin (hamstring) is going to be out awhile. Ogletree has flashed, but hasn’t been inconsistent. High-risk play.

7. Roy Helu, RB, Redskins: He earned more playing time than Tim Hightower last week with impressive running and route-running out of the backfield. If Hightower were to go down, Helu would beast. As it is now, he’s earning a timeshare.
