When does NBA basketball season start, begin, 2017-18

The 2017-18 NBA basketball season will start its regular season earlier than usual this October. The typical start of the pro basketball season occurs just ahead of the Halloween holiday, but this season – one of the most anticipated NBA seasons in years due to an inordinate amount of player movement this offseason – will start in mid-October.

The NBA preseason will start on Saturday, Sept. 30 with Denver playing at Golden State and Minnesota playing the Los Angeles Lakers.

The NBA preseason ends on Friday, Oct. 13 but the pro basketball season will start for real on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with the beginning of the regular season.

TNT will broadcast the first two games of the NBA season live with the Celtics and Kyrie Irving facing off against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers (8 p.m., TNT). In the nightcap, the new-look Houston Rockets with Chris Paul and James Harden will square off with the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors (10:30 p.m., TNT)

Most every other NBA team opens up the next night on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Here is the schedule of dates.
