This new temporary exhibit, on tour from New Zealand, explores whales from scientific, legendary, historical, and cultural viewpoints — specifically from the viewpoint of the Maori, whose relationship with whales is part of the legend of their founding. Dig the giant whale skeletons, learn about echolocation, and even build your own dolphin!

House of Blues
15 Lansdowne St., Boston
MBTA: Green Line to Kenmore
$20-$30, 888-693-2583
Those who know Gwar know what they’re getting into — an insane comic heavy metal spectacle with the band decked in cos-tumes worthy of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, wielding wacky, lewd props, ritualistic mutilation of celebrities, and a great deal of projectile liquid. Those who do not know Gwar are advised to bring a poncho.
