Good morning!

As you were recovering from Super Bowl, soldiers were fighting and dying in Ukraine and China was sniffy about Obama’s plans for breakfast with the Dalai Lama.

An Australian journalist was released from jail, as ex-IMF boss Strauss-Kahn faced jail for yet more sexual shenanigans.

A released Australian journalist headed home

One of three Al Jazeera journalists jailed in Egypt for supposedly promoting terrorist activity was released. The family of Australian Peter Grestesaid “beer and prawns” would be waiting for him back home, but also that his excitement and relief on leaving jail after 400 days was tempered by his concern for his two colleagues who are still behind bars.

Strauss-Kahn faced jail in another sex scandal

Remember the IMF boss who was accused of sexually-assaulting a New York hotel cleaner a few years ago? Dominique Strauss-Kahn is back in the dock on sex charges today, charged with pimping at sex parties in Washington, Paris and the French city of Lille. His lawyers say everyone knows he’s a swinger but he didn’t know the women were hookers. He might be slapped with 10 years in jail or a $1.7m fine. In the meantime, the French media is already serving up salacious details of his eye-poppingly debauched sex life documented in the case.
