Nigeria’s kidnapped 200 were remembered

It may be a year since more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram, but they’re by no means forgotten. BringBackOurGirls marches are planned and the country’s new president has promised to step up the search for the girls. Meanwhile, the U.N. says the Islamic group has snatched more than 2,000 women in the last year.

Obama planned Iraq talks

The president is set to hatch plans with Iraq to crush ISIS as part of talks at the White House today. Iraq’s PM is also expected to ask for arms on his first trip to the U.S..

Another cop killed another unarmed man

In Oklahoma, a reserve cop mistook his gun for a taser and shot dead an unarmed black man. The 73-year-old insurance salesman and reserve sheriff’s deputy, Bob Bates, was charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Blackwater massacre guards got time

Four U.S. former security guards were sentenced for opening fire on a crowd of 14 unarmed Iraqi civilians, including children, during the Iraq War. One got life, the others received 30 years.

Ex-NFL player suspected of cellmate death

A former running back for the San Francisco 49ers, who’s now in jail, is a suspect in the murder of his cellmate. Lawrence Phillips was serving a 31-year sentence prison for a string of serious crimes, including savagely attacking his ex.

Abraham Lincoln’s quilt is to be tested for blood

A blanket that might or might not have been draped over the president’s knees as he died is being DNA-tested today. If experts find traces of his blood, it could well be confirmed as his deathbed bedspread.
