Witnesses sought in attempted robbery at grocery store parking lot

Police are seeking witnesses following an attempted robbery at a grocery store parking lot Tuesday night.

Police said at 8:15 p.m., a woman in her 30s was in the parking lot at 2085 Carling Ave. when an unknown male wielding a knife, possibly a switchblade, approached her. The keys to her vehicle were demanded.

The male fled towards the nearby mall after the woman yelled at him. Police are now seeking a clean-shaven, English-speaking black male, 18 to 20 years old, six feet tall and 170 to 180 pounds.

Ten people were arrested after Ottawa police conducted a two-day prostitution sweep in the Lowertown and Vanier areas earlier this week. Police arrested two males and eight females.

The males qualified for the pre-charge diversion program, while the females face charges including communicating for the purpose of prostitution, mischief and various breaches. The sweep was part of an ongoing effort to deal with community-identified prostitution-related problems.
