Woman caught with cocaine at Logan

For the second time in six weeks, Logan authorities caught a suspected drug mule trying to bring cocaine through the airport and into the country.

The latest bust occurred Sunday morning when Customs officials became suspicious of a 22-year-old East Boston woman who arrived on a JetBlue flight from the Dominican Republic.

Karen Morla-Ramos was “displaying signs of nervousness” and was unable to provide details of her trip during questioning, according to a police report.

When police frisked the woman, they found more than two pounds of cocaine in “a diaper type garment strapped to her hips.”

She was held on $250,000 bail.

Luisa Gil, 21, was also caught coming from the Dominican last month and swallowed about 52 pellets of cocaine.

The recent arrests may reflect Logan’s attitude about security with its connection to the Sept. 11 flights, experts said.

“Logan is quite serious now about operating a safe and serious airport,” said Arnold Barnett, a MIT professor and aviation security expert.
