Woman gives birth on Massachusetts Turnpike

A woman gave birth to a baby boy on the Massachusetts TurnpikeSunday night with the help of state police, officials said.

Just after 7 p.m., state troopers responded to a call from a Framingham couple who reported that the woman was in labor.

The couple was pulled over on the Mass Pike eastbound near the AllstonBrighton tolls at exit 18.

State police arrived on scene as the couple pulled into a parking lot beyond the toll booth. Boston EMS, Trooper Joseph Hilton and Lt. William Nee then arrived to help the woman, who was in labor.

Before EMS could transport the woman to the hospital, she gave birth in the ambulance. The couple and their new baby boy were then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. The identity of the family wasn’t disclosed by police or hospital officials.

State police said that it was “excellent work by all involved.”
