A woman with a pellet gun seeking to take down an apparently annoying raccoon ended up shooting herself in the chest.
Kerrilee Zimmerman, 31, of East Bridgewater, went outside the home in Wellfleet where she was apparently staying to shoot a raccoon at about 11 p.m. yesterday, according to Wellfleet police.
However, it was Zimmerman who ended up with the gunshot wound.
“While outside she tripped and accidentally shot herself, resulting in a wound to her chest,” Wellfleet police said in a statement.
Zimmerman was seriously injured and was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.
Police said they are investigating.
