Woman stable, man charged after shooting in townsite

Another gang-related shooting in the Samson First Nations Townsite has left a 22-year-old woman in stable condition.

On Friday morning at about 1:15 a.m., police responded to shots being fired at a home in the townsite southeast of Edmonton. The 22-year-old woman was inside the home and sustained life-threatening injuries.

An RCMP dog unit tracked a suspect to another townsite home. Police evacuated adults and children until just the suspect was left. Police believed he was armed with a large calibre rifle.

At about 6:30 a.m., police entered the home and arrested a man without incident. Const. Perry Cardinal of the Hobbema RCMP said the suspect is a known gang member.

Cardinal said it’s not known if the victim was the only person home or if she was targeted,
Clinton Roy Green, 20, of the Samson Cree Nation, has been charged with several firearms-related offences. He is scheduled to appear in court today.
