Women looking to walk all over cancer

Yumi White, who has battled breast and cervical cancers, said the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers walk is a source of strength.

“My dear friend Anita Cochrane introduced me to the walk five years ago. She inspires and encourages me,” said White. “She is losing her battle with cancer and is in the hospital, but I’m here because of her.”

White is now fighting a rare form of lung cancer.

“I am very honoured I am still able to walk and help other people, but I’m not sure if I can do the walk this year without Anita. She is the leader of the team.”

“The emotions aspect is what makes the Weekend really special,” said Doug Nelson, president and CEO of the B.C. Cancer Foundation. “Hearing people’s stories about grandmothers, mothers and daughters is very inspiring.”

He added that donations raised will be used to improve patient care as well as understanding causes of cancers and the best treatment options available.
