A worker in his 60s was killed Monday after he fell off the roof of a two-storey townhouse in Kanata.
At around 9:43 a.m., a man in his 60s was replacing shingles on a Pickford Drive townhouse when he stepped backwards and lost his footing, said paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, the man had no vital signs.
Paramedics immediately began resuscitative measures. When those were exhausted, he was declared deceased at the scene, Trottier said.
Ottawa police and the Ontario Ministry of Labour are now investigating the incident.
While paramedics get called to industrial accidents “of varying degrees” about once a week, the incidents rarely end in fatalities, Trottier said. Construction trades usually result in more serious injuries, he said.
