Workplace porn surfers likely ‘think they can get away with it’: Experts

People surf for porn at work because at home there’s a chance their partners would find out, according to University of B.C. psychology professor Del Paulhus.

“They probably assume that their bosses don’t care that much,” Paulhus said. “After all, the total amount of time spent on social network sites at work is far greater.”

Over the last few months, 13 UBC employees have been caught surfing for porn on the job and suspended for 10 days.

Marelize Swart, a psychologist with advanced training in Human Sexuality, said she agrees.

“I don’t think they’re addicted (to porn),” she said. “But (these people) think they can get away with it.”
