I am showcasing a life-size, stainless steel, suspended mechanical horse that gallops in slow motion at the push of a button.
From my passion for riding horses, art and sculpture, metal and engineering, and tinkering with LEGOs when I was a kid, somehow at some point I thought that it just might be possible to make such a crazy thing. Since it was so crazy and it had never really been done before, I had to take it on.
At first I was surprised by how hard it was to make things really precise in metal-working. All of my previous sculpture never required such precision and detail as it was more art than engineering.
I would like to develop this project further and make newer ones with different materials and mechanisms. For instance, this one works with stainless steel chain and custom laser-cut sprockets. I would like to make a new one with cast iron pulleys and belts, and use copper or corten steel to define the exterior anatomy of the horse.
I have always wanted to go to a Maker Faire and I am very excited to be part of it and attend it for the first time. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and discovering new things.
I think if we could free ourselves from gravity with some kind of device/space ship, then we would never have to be bound to the ground and worry about being stuck in traffic, or of how fast your car will break down from driving in the streets of NYC, and more.
