Local student entrepreneurs cleaned up at a North American business competition and their team was crowned the 2010 Company of the Year for their “Healthy Hands” product.
The Junior Achievement Calgary team of 15 students, ranging in age from 15 to 17, won the North American JA Company of the Year competition in Minneapolis, Minn., this month, making a Calgary group the winner for the second straight year.
“We were thrilled when we won, over the moon, actually,” team vice-president Michael Smith said.
The group developed a “Healthy Hands” hand-washing kit that not only cleans hands but also comes with a UV light to show where people may have missed some dirt.
“I thought I was a good hand washer, but was pretty grossed out when I saw what I missed.”
