Thanksgiving may be a travel nightmare for New Englanders, with some areas receiving more than a foot of snow.

Thanksgiving travelers should consider moving up Wednesday travel plans if they still can, as travel will be easier earlier in the day, said Alan Dunham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Parts of Boston could see from one to four inches of snow. Logan Airport may see one or two inches of slush, while central and western Massachusetts could see up to 14 inches.

The storm will start as rain Wednesday morning, then change to a mix of snow and rain by mid-Wednesday morning, becoming all snow by the afternoon, the National Weather Service said Tuesday. Snow could continue until midnight.

“That rain to snow line will keep moving until it marches all the way to the coast,” saidDunham.

The storm may affect airports up and down the eastern seaboard, including Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, Hartford, Providence and Boston.

“It’s important not to get hung up on the exact snowfall amount,” he said “It’s more important to realize the impact this will have and it will have a really big impact on Wednesday.”
