The state's gaming commission on Thursday formally approved of a waiver that allows for a second citywide vote in Revere on a revised casino plan at Suffolk Downs.
Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted unanimously to waive the requirement during a meeting Thursday morning, according to the commission.
The vote waives the requirement that applicants for one of the state's three resort casino licenses must submit a certified vote on a Host Community Agreement by the end of this month. Suffolk Downs and its new partner, Mohegan Sun, must still submit plans by the end of the year.
The issue of a second vote has come up after voters in East Boston rejected an agreement on a casino and voters in Revere approved of it during a vote in November. Suffolk Downs stretches into both East Boston and Revere.
After the vote, Suffolk Downs and Mohegan Sun announced a revised plan that would locate the entire casino on 42 acres of the Revere portion of the racetrack.
