The Giants haven’t had a truly elite running back since Tiki Barber, and their running game was particularly pathetic this past season as Rashad Jennings was – statistically – their leading runner and he finished with just 593 yards on the ground. Paul Perkins showed flashes, but with just one 100-plus yard game on the season, the Giants are rightfully not sold on him as a No. 1 back.

One headline-grabbing solution could be in landing former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson. Peterson gave the Giants a wink on Thursday, telling ESPN’s First Take that New York could be a good landing spot for him.

“There’s a couple teams out there that I’ve thought about,” Peterson said. “New York was one of them that popped up, Tampa Bay, lot of different teams. Houston would be a good spot … I’ll stop right there. I’m just throwing random names out there.”

The Vikings have a team option on the face of their franchise and there’s been some indication that Minnesota is ready to let him go due to cost and health concerns. ProFootballTalk reported Thursday that the Vikings decision on whether or not to retain Peterson will happen soon.

Peterson played in just three games in 2016 and carried the ball just 37 times for 72 yards in those outings. In 2015, though, Peterson was arguably the best back in the league – rushing for a whopping 1,485 yards and 11 touchdowns on 327 carries.

Peterson will be 32-years-old, considered ancient for a running back, at the start of the 2017 season.
