A man wanted for murder in Rhode Island killed himself Saturday on the New Jersey Turnpike after being chased by state troopers, who found the body of the man’s wife in his trunk.

Franklin Osgood, 61, of Providence, Rhode Island, was traveling northbound on the turnpike near Ridgefield Park, Bergen County, when troopers attempted to pull over his vehicle, according to the Bergen Record.

Around 9:30 p.m., Osgood lost control of his car, struck a metal guardrail and crashed into a trooper’s car. When authorities approached his 2007 black Dodge Charger, state police found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.

They also found the body of his wife, 55-year-old Mary Jo Osgood, in the trunk.

Franklin Osgood was pronounced deadlater at Hackensack University Medical Center, 6ABC reported.

Police began searching for Osgood Saturday afternoonafter his daughter reported him missing, according to the Providence Journal.
