Crowds lined the sidewalks around the 911 Memorial in lower Manhattan Friday as Pope Francis delivered a powerful message about the heroism displayed on September 11, 2001, but amid the beauty of the day festered a familiar kind of hate.

The Westboro Baptist church, in all its sinister glory, brought its grotesque signs and messages to the streets of New York City Friday to protest Pope Francis' historic visit.
