The NFL and the sport of American football needs to figure out this concussion thing soon, or else it will go the way of horse racing and boxing in this country.

On Tuesday, a story was published in the medical journal JAMA that revealed chronic traumatic encephalopathy – now commonly known as CTE – was found in 99 percent of deceased NFL player’ brains that were donated to scientific research.

Of course, most of the players’ brains donated for the research were suspect for CTE.

“There is no question that there’s a problem in football,” said Dr. Ann McKee, director of Boston University’s CTE Center (via CNN). “And we urgently need to find answers for not just football players but veterans and other individuals exposed to head trauma.”

The NFL has invested millions of dollars in concussion research and just recent sent new helmet – VICIS’ ZERO1 – to all of its teams for testing. The ZERO1 helmet more or less turns the traditional helmet inside out as the outside of the helmet is made of flexible polymer.
