If you’re toying with the idea of saying goodbye to your long tresses, now is the time to do it. In fact, short hair just might be the most popular beauty trend of the moment.
“Short is chic right now,” says Lorean Cairns, co-founder and creative director ofFox and Jane Salonin New York City. “It’s the biggest trend of the season; everyone’s cutting their hair off.”
Think you don’t have “the right kind of face” to pull off short hair? Think again. Cairns says that, if done right, every woman can look stunning with shorter locks. But before you head to the salon, check out these three short hairstyles that are currently trending the hardest.
THE WAVY LOB
Less severe than a traditional bob, the “lob” extends to around the collarbone. It’s also got a bit of a triangular shape in that it’s wider on the bottom, but still leaves a little volume up top.
“The reason we’re seeing the wavy lob is because it looks good on everyone,” says Cairns. “It actually works really well whether you have a square, heart, oval or round face shape. One of the reasons why it’s taking off like wild fire is that it fits every girl.”
MESSY SHORT HAIR
The clean, smooth hairstyles that were so popular last year are quickly fading—and this applies directly to shorter hair.
“2015 is all about texture, texture, texture,” says Cairns, who adds that bed-head is heavily replacing polished short looks. “In 2014, everything was very princessy, which is gone right now. The sexiest look is almost to curl it the day before, sleep on it, run your fingers through it, put that dry shampoo in it and let it go.”
With the summer heat and humidity right around the corner, embracing your hair’s natural texture makes it that much easier to maintain a short haircut. Looser, more bohemian short hair is definitely where it’s at right now.

The pixie cut is enjoying a resurgence these days. While last year was all about the asymmetrical, half-shaved look, Cairns says that trend is on its way out right now. Instead, expect to see more variations of the super-short pixie cut.
“The traditional face shape we see for [the pixie] is oval, heart-shaped, or even diamond-shaped because we want those cheekbones,” she says. “When we see a woman and think she looks great with a pixie, it’s because she has that diamond-point cheekbone that just looks great.”
