3 spooky ways to start your week

Halloween is still weeks away, but there’s plenty of frightful fun to have all month long — and as real life becomes more terrifying every day, distracting yourself with supernatural scares is pretty much the new self-care. Here are a few spooky events to get your blood boiling and make you forget about, say, the threat of nuclear war. Think of these as your Friday the 13th pregame.

Next Level Anxiety

“Is the state of the world making you anxious???” If so, you’re not alone. Exorcise your fears at a screening of a new web-series, “Next Level Anxiety,” which “blends sci-fi, fantasy, and comedy to embody the anxieties of our current social climate while showing a bigger and more mystical world beyond our own,” according to the website. Post-screening, stick around to hear the cast and crew tell scary stories. The PIT Loft, 154 W. 29th St, Monday, 7:00, $7

A Drinking Game NYC presents: “Scream”

What’s your favorite scary movie? Wes Craven’s self-reflexive thriller gets a live staged reading by actors who are also drinking cocktails on stage, Tuesday evening at Littlefield. To keep you drunk and entertained, whenever you hear a buzzword from the movie (list provided), everybody drinks! Littlefield, 635 Sackett St., Tuesday, Doors 7:30, show 8:00 p.m., $12

Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary”

Cats are already spooky AF, so imagine a dead cat come back to life to haunt you! On Wednesday night, the Brooklyn Bazaar hosts a free screening of the 1989 Stephen King adaptation. Bonus: The four-story former Polish banquet hall turned cultural event space has plenty of haunted house vibes on its own. Brooklyn Bazaar, 150 Greenpoint Ave., Wednesday, 8:00 p.m., Free
