Police Commissioner Bill Bratton assured New York City Wednesday that he had no plans to retire and he wasn’t going anywhere soon, NY Daily News reports.

In an attempt to debunk speculation and rumors that Bratton is looking to leave at the end of Mayor De Blasio’s first term, Bratton quoted Mark Twain.

“What did Mark Twain write?” Bratton said on Wednesday. “The reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated.”

Last week, CBS New York reported that Bratton said he wouldn’t serve as police commissioner if Mayor Bill De Blasio wins a second term and CityAndStateNY.com reported that he said he is too old to lead the NYPD and serve again.

But alas, Bratton insists that he is “having the time of his life” and that “there’s a lot of work to do.”

Bratton’s comments took place after a One Police Plaza meeting on Wednesday.
