A cab driver and passenger were targeted in stabbings in two separate incidents, one of which was fatal.

According to the Daily News, Rafael Veras, 35, was in his cab on Dumont Ave. near Shepherd Ave. in East New York when a suspect approached his car just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday and stabbed him several times in the torso before fleeing the scene, police said.

“I heard the commotion over the cab radio that a driver needed help,” a fellow driver said to the Daily News. “It didn’t sound that serious at first, but then the dispatcher said a driver was down.”

He rushed to the scene and found that police were already there, according to the Daily News.

“About two minutes later, they cut him out of the seat belt and started doing CPR,”the driver said in the article.

Veras was taken to Brookdale University Hospital but could not be saved, police said in the report. Officials have also said that the motive behind the stabbing was unclear.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, an unidentified 42-year-old passenger was critically injured after being assaulted by a cabbie during an argument in the Bronx, the Daily News reported. He was taken taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, and police took the 54-year-old driver into custody.
