The fire, on the third floor of a three-story building, was extinguished by 9:35 a.m., the Boston Globe stated. The five injured people were all taken to area hospitals and treated for smoke inhalation.

Officials told WCVB that high gas levels were detected in the building, but none of the inhalation injuries were life-threatening.

Students have received a university alert urging them to avoid the area around the building, which is at 640 Commonwealth Ave., the Globe added.
