Metro-North riders will be switching from trains to buses between Wassaic and Southeast this weekend, the MTA announced Tuesday. The changes will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday until normal service resumes early Monday morning.
Work includes renovating the Cornwall Hill Road grade crossing in Patterson and cutting brush and welding rail joints on the tracks.
Beginning with the 11:28 p.m. departure from Wassaic on Friday and throughout the weekend, buses will travel to Southeast for southbound service. They will stop at the Tenmile River, Dover Plains, Harlem Valley-Wingdale, Pawling and Patterson stations.
The buses will operate 15 to 30 minutes earlier than the train’s normal schedules, and the MTA urges rides to listen to announcements.
Changes for northbound service from Grand Central to Southeast will begin with the 8:52 p.m. train on Friday and will be in effect Saturday and Sunday. Buses from Southeast will stop at Patterson, Pawling, Harlem Valley-Wingdale, Dover Plains, Tenmile River and Wassaic.
“Customers should allow for later arrival times,” the MTA said.

Extra Metro-North service at Melrose and Tremont here to stay
After piloting increased service at Metro-North’s Melrose and Tremont stations earlier this month, the MTA announced Tuesday that it is keeping the added trains for good.
The pilot began Oct. 2, and changed the frequency of trains at both stations from two hours to one hour on weekends and off-peak hours. The program also added earlier inbound weekday service and later outbound service on weekdays and weekends.
The changes were made permanent after overall ridership at Melrose and Tremont saw an 81 percent increase. Weekday ridership rose 67 percent, while weekend ridership jumped 101 percent.
“We’re pleased that increased service at Melrose and Tremont has become so popular,” Catherine Rinaldi, acting president of Metro-North, said in a statement. “Expanding service at Melrose and Tremont stations not only benefits customers who commute to Grand Central Terminal, but also the Bronx residents who reverse commute up to Westchester County and Connecticut.”
The increased service at Melrose and Tremont are available:
• from 5:51 a.m. to 12:47 a.m. (inbound, weekdays)
• from 5:38 a.m. to 1:20 a.m. (outbound, weekdays)
• from 6:44 a.m. to 12:44 a.m. (inbound, weekends)
• from 6:25 a.m. to 1:20 a.m. (outbound, weekends)
