Fallen officers honored as heroes by SBA

Fallen officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, who were shot and killed while sitting in their patrol car in Bed-Stuy last December, will receive the Sergeants Benevolent Association’s Heroism Award Thursday night.

The posthumous award will bepresented during the 106th annual event held in Howard Beach.

“These brave men have left us much too soon, but their legacies will live on forever, as they should,” said SBA President Ed Mullins of Liu and Ramos in a statement.

Other NYPD members awarded were Det. Dennis Guerra, who died from smoke inhalation responding to a Coney Island fire last April, and Officer Michael Williams, who was killed when an NYPD van crashed in the Bronx in September.

Philly Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, who was shot and killed in 1981 while trying to make an arrest, will also be honored. Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted of Faulkner’s killing.

Supporters of Mumia have recently called for him to receive better medical care for his diabetes, WPVI reported.
