Conservative actor, comedian and Vice Media co-founder Gavin McInnes is scheduled to speak at New York University Thursday night, raising the ire of some student groups.
Invited by NYU College Republicans, McInnes is slated to speak at 7 p.m., NYU Local reported. A protest, hosted by NYU Anti-Fascists, will begin 30 minutes before the talk, according to a Facebook event invite. The event description reads:
Jonathan Wolfe of Florida wrote on the event page: “Calling yourselves anti fascists while calling for a disruption of a speaker simply because his opinions are different from yours. The irony is mind boggling.” Come to Kimmel, Rosenthal Pavilion to let NYU know that we will not stand for bigotry, racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny on our campus. Rick Evans told the group, “This is our event not yours.”
Referring to the impending protest, McInnes tweeted, “The demand for Nazis is much higher than the supply.” McInnes left Vice about a decade ago, according to a source at the website. Since then, he was a frequent guest on Fox News, has a podcast on Compound Media and is involved with a group calling itself “Proud Boys.” “#ProudBoys We are Western chauvinist who refuses to apologize for creating the modern world. The West is the Best. #POYB #MAGA,” according to the group’s Twitter account.
