Giants’ McAdoo: ‘There is no such thing as a trap game’

Da Bears are not da best of teams right now.

There is no denying that 2016 has been rough for the Chicago Bears, who are 2-7 and struggling after a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. It was thought that the Bears, in their second year under head coach John Fox, were playoff contenders. Instead they’ve regressed and there are reports about locker room dissension.

Da Bears. Da mess.

So in every meaning of the word this Sunday at MetLife Stadium is a trap game for the New York Giants, now winners of four straight. The Bears come limping in, banged up and dejected, their season likely over were they to lose this weekend.

And here come the Giants, with their next three games against teams with losing records. At 6-3 they already have equaled their win total from each of the past two seasons.

“You just have to be careful looking at record. They don’t mean a whole lot. You look at games that they have played, they have played a lot of close games and I look at their defense. You look at their defense and you don’t see that record,” Giants quarterback Eli Manning said. “I see a talented front seven that is getting sacks, that has good scheme and a lot of offenses that are not moving the ball well on them, so I am preparing for that type of game where we have to play smart, protect the football and find ways to score points. I am expecting it to be a tough afternoon.”

A tough afternoon, potentially, especially since the Bears have a top-ranked pass rush and the Giants offensive line has been their glaring weak-point this season.

But still the Bears are a dumpster fire and for a team that has won four straight games, this could be a trap game. It is at home, against a struggling team and the Giants have now beaten four straight opponents to turn around their season. Chicago has lost four of their last five games and is bottom of their division.

“There’s no such a thing as a trap game. We have to be ready to play each and every week in this league. Especially this week, coming off of an emotional night game on Monday night,” Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said. “We have to make sure we’re dialed in. We got everything we could out of today’s practice. More of a jog through type mentality and tomorrow we have to squeeze everything out of Thursday.”
