‘Jews did 9/11’: ADL condemns anti-Semitic vandalism at Mass. high school

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned a recent hate crime at a hight school outside of Boston, while police continue to search for suspects.

Anti-Semitic writing was discovered on Marblehead High Schools softball field on Aug. 17, according to the organization. In addition to the scrawled “Jews did 9/11,” a window had been broken.

“This shameful act of hate goes beyond simply being offensive,”ADL New England Regional Director Robert Trestan said. “The perpetrators were promoting the pernicious conspiracy theory claiming that Jews were responsible for 9/11. This type of attack warrants condemnation by the entire community.”

“We remain extremely concerned by the surge in anti-Semitic incidents this year especially in schools and will continue to partner with local communities, schools districts and law enforcement.”

This isn’t the first time Marbleheadhas experienced anti-Semitic incidents, so the school has partnered with the ADL and will startADL’s anti-bias training program next month.

“The school system is working hard to get the building ready for the rapidly approaching school year,” Marblehead police said.”They don’t need setbacks like this.”

Marblehead High School was listed among the top 150 public high schools in the U.S. as ranked by Newsweek.
